Tour de France 2007 XXII – the follow ups

The cycling is over, the saga continues;

Cycling: Mayo fails Tour drugs test (2007-Jul-31) [The Independent]
… The Spanish rider Iban Mayo has earned the dubious honour of becoming the third rider to fail a drugs test in this year’s scandal-ridden Tour de France.
The Saunier Duval-Prodir rider tested positive for EPO on the second rest day of the Tour. He has been immediately suspended by his team and will be sacked if the initial result is confirmed. …

Contador Tour win a ‘swindle’: doping expert (2007-Jul-31) [ABC]
… Mr Franke bases his claim on documents he says are in his possession from the Spanish police’s Operation Puerto inquiry into Eufemiano Fuentes, the doctor said to have masterminded doping programmes for athletes.
“The name of this Mr Contador appears on several occasions on the court and police documents,” he told German television station ZDF. …

Alberto Contador, miraculé yellow jersey of the “Puerto operation” (2007-Jul-28) [Le Monde]
“DIFFERENCE IN TREATMENT”
With the difference of Roberto Heras or Joseba Beloki, the report/ratio of investigation did not reveal annotations mentioning of the doping products opposite the name of Alberto Contador. The case of Gianpaolo Caruso is, on the other hand, similar to that of Contador. However if the Spanish federation did not judge good to continue its runner, the prosecutor antidopage Italian Olympic committee (CONI) required two years of suspension against Gianpaolo Caruso. “It is completely abnormal that Contador can continue to run without being worried by the Puerto operation whereas Coni asked for two years of suspension against Caruso. There is not more in the file against Caruso which Contador counters”, declares in the World Jörg Jaksche, former team-member of the Spaniard at Liberty-Seguros.

Labertouche Cave rescue

From the Herald Sun;

Cave explorers rescued from six-metre hole
Article from: AAP

July 30, 2007 06:38am

A COUPLE exploring caves in Victoria’s west Gippsland area have been rescued from a six-metre-deep hole.

A man, 28, from Endeavour Hills and a woman, 31, were exploring the caves at Labertouche about 2pm (AEST) yesterday when they found themselves unable to get out of a six-metre deep hole.

The man’s father alerted police shortly after 1am (AEST) when he became concerned the couple had not returned on time, Victoria Police spokesman Senior Constable David Fitzgerald said.

A policeman from Neerim South arrived at the caves about 2am (AEST), finding their car but no sign of the couple.

He entered the caves, found them quickly and rescued them.

The couple were very cold, but unharmed.

Labertouche is a boulder cave where many Victorians get their first experience at caving. The crawl is marked with reflective markers (and an old route with white arrows). From memory this was my first cave with the Latrobe Mountaineering Club.
There is little information available about the Labertouche caves on the net, and due to incidents such as the one above it should probably stay that way.
