im doing my homework and cannot seen to find what im looking for so i thought you would be able to help with these questions
1.how is tour de france08 conducted and how it is broken up?
2.what diffferent roles do the competing team members have?
@taleah
I think your best bet is to have a look at Wikipedia for a bit of an overview. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_de_france )
Some quick answers:
1.how is tour de france08 conducted and how it is broken up?
The Tour de France is the world’s main cycle race. Started in 1903, it is a 23-day, 21-stage bicycle road race usually run over more than 3,500 kilometres (2,200 mi). The route, which varies from year to year, traces a circuit around most areas of France, and often passes into neighbouring countries. The race is broken into stages from one town to another, each of which is an individual race. The time taken to complete each stage is added to a cumulative total for each rider, to decide the outright winner at the end of the Tour. – Wikipedia
2.what different roles do the competing team members have?
As there are different jersey’s or competitions within the race a team may have riders that are specialists in the various categories.
- GC (General Gategory – Yellow Jersey)
- Sprinter (Green Jersey)
- Climber (Polka Dot Jersey)
- Best Team
To help a jersey competitor a team may include domestique (A rider whose main job is to help the team leader win the day’s stage) who’s job it is to fetch food and water from the cars to swap bikes if the Team Leader has a mechanical problem or other tasks. Some teams, such as CSC, have super-domestiques such as Fabian Cancellara and Jens Voight who can perform amazing turns at the head of the Peleton and change the whole shape of the race.
As to the tactics and how you use these other team members, it could fill a book
