Stage Details:

Tonight is Stage 4, Abbeville > Rouen, 214.5 km

Riders who regularly take part in the Tour of Picardy are familiar with the pitfalls that the region can hold in store for them. The experts of bordure formations may well take advantage of the wind that blows by the seaside during the whole first part of the stage, which will boasts very beautiful scenery. The favourite riders in the race will have to be extremely careful, as they know how hard it is to make up for lost time caused by their carelessness at the beginning of the Tour.Christian Prudhomme’s Analysis

Mark Cavendish (Sky) was one of a handful of riders who crashed heavily about 2.5km from the finish of the 214.5km fourth stage from Abbeville to Rouen.
The stage was won by German Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) from Italian Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-ISD) and Dutchman Tom Veelers (Argos-Shimano) after a brilliant lead out from his teammates that includes Australian Adam Hansen and New Zealand’s Greg Henderson.
Among the others who crashed, leaving about 15-20 riders to fight out the stage finish, were Cavendish’s Austrian lead-out rider Bernhard Eisel (Sky) who required stitches to a cut above the eye brow after and Australian Mark Renshaw (Rabobank).

The Age

The intermediate sprint at 140km saw the break take the major points on offer with Arashiro (Europcar) rolling through the line uncontested and Delaplace (Saur Sojasun) and Moncoutie (Cofidis) following.
The bunch sprint for fourth saw Cavendish take fourth from Australian Matt Goss (Orica-GreenEDGE) while green jersey leader Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) finished a watchful sixth.
