The rest day in Maçon will be necessary for the riders to attack this tenth, new and very promising stage. Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) bounced back from the knee problem that has dogged the first week of his Tour de France to take victory on the tenth stage between Mâcon and Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. The former French champion managed to escape the rest of a five-man breakaway group on the uphill final kilometre to the line, finishing three seconds ahead of Michele Scarponi (Lampre-ISD), and seven ahead of Jens Voigt (RadioShack-Nissan).

Voeckler was in a breakaway group of 25 riders that formed in the first few kilometres.
Green jersey category leader Peter Sagan helped form the attack and Goss immediately joined it as well.
Goss beat Sagan at the intermediate sprint and the Slovakian finished third behind Belarusian Yauheni Hutarovich.
That meant Goss picked up five points over Sagan and he now trails him by only 26 in the green jersey classification.
