“A tip of the hat to provincial France, the France of the Tour. Our caravan will set off from Samatan, a large town with 2,200 inhabitants which is the main town of the Gers canton. It will probably be a calm start, as the stage is not particularly tough. A sprint finish would be the logical outcome, and I actually hope it happens, because pure sprinters will not get many chances to shine in this Tour. The finish in Pau will be beautiful, like always. Pierrick Fedrigo won the 15th stage of the Tour de France after a two-man sprint finish in the town of Pau.
The FDJ rider finished ahead of Christian Vande Velde (Garmin-Sharp) and Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) to complete the 158.5km stage from Samatan to Pau in a time of 3 hours 40 minutes 15 seconds.
Fedrigo was in the break of the day along with Vande Velde, Voeckler, Nicki Sorensen (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank), Dries Devenyns (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) and Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis).
A number of early attacks failed to materialise into anything solid, but the Fedrigo group eventually shook free of the peloton 62km into the stage.
