The Aussie Readers group on Goodreads has the May Challenge – Foreign/Translated Fiction ;

For May we are going to venture into something different. There are a lot of books out there now which are foreign books, and have since been translated into English for us to read;) For example The Bat, which was originally known as Flaggermusmannen by Jo Nesbø

So our challenge for this month is to read a book which has been translated into English…post your link to the book here in the challenge thread when you have made your choice:)

001

It is with the most pleasure my withered prune of a heart is capable of that I welcome you to this comprehensive, full colour Graphic Novel of that pillar of 21st Century fantasy fiction, The First Law Trilogy.
It’s about eighteen months since Rich Young first came to me with the idea, and since then it’s involved a great deal of work from a lot of talented people. And me. …

** April 2013 Challenge – Australian Women Authors **

The Aussie Readers group on Goodreads has the April Challenge – Australian Women Authors;

The month of April incorporates the very first Stella Prize, and the winner will be announced in Melbourne on the evening of Tuesday 16 April 2013. Named after one of Australia’s most important female authors, Stella Maria ‘Miles’ Franklin (1879–1954), the prize rewards one writer with a significant monetary prize of $50,000.
So our challenge is to read an Australian Woman Author to celebrate this momentous event.
The longlist, which you might like to choose from…
Relax, lay back and enjoy your reading for this month!

Game of Thrones – Season 3

GoTs3 Description:
Duplicity and treachery…nobility and honor…conquest and triumph…and, of course, dragons. It’s ‘Game’ on for Season 3 of this epic, Emmy(R)-winning HBO series based on the bestselling book series by George R.R. Martin. In Season 3, family and loyalty are the overarching themes as many critical storylines from the first two seasons come to a brutal head. Meanwhile, the Lannisters maintain their hold on King’s Landing, though stirrings in the North threaten to alter the balance of power; Robb Stark, King of the North, faces a major calamity as he tries to build on his victories; a massive army of wildlings led by Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) march for the Wall; and Daenerys Targaryen–reunited with her dragons–attempts to raise an army in her quest for the Iron Throne.

A Song of Ice and Fire:
It is interesting to see that Benioff and Weiss have cut Martin’s third book, A Storm of Swords, in two: season three is the first half; season four will be the second.

(Beware! Spoilers after the jump)

Friday : Book Spine Poem #2

Today’s poem was sourced from books in the Little Free Library at work. I was aiming for a rhyming poem this week, alas it was not to be.

What mystery or family secret is about to be revealed here?

Book Spine Poem

Things your Mother never told you,
Now it can be told.
Things I’ve been silent about
… just between us.

Cruel doubt;
“You want to do what?”
In the long run,
only you can save mankind.

NPR 100 Best-Ever Teen Novels (2012)

I missed this when it was initially published;

It’s almost a cliche at this point to say that teen fiction isn’t just for teens anymore. Just last year, the Association of American Publishers ranked Children’s/Young Adult books as the single fastest-growing publishing category.
Which is why we were only a little surprised to see the tremendous response that came in for this summer’s Best-Ever Teen Fiction poll. A whopping 75,220 of you voted for your favorite young adult novels, blasting past the total for last year’s science fiction and fantasy poll at, dare we say it, warp speed.
