Stage 9: Bordeaux – Dax
Oscar Freire just beats Robbie McEwen in a bunch sprint for the line. Tom Boonen misses again.
He’s like Harry Potter, he has the cloak of invisibility on and just as he hitsthe line he takes it off. Cause in a bunch sprint at the end … you never see him until he crosses the line. — Phil Liggett (regarding Robbie McEwan)
Stage 10: Cambo-les-Bains – Pau
Juan Mercado take sthe line honours. Cyril Dessel works a small breakaway and comes away with yellow and polka-dot. A Frenchman leads the Touron the day in the mountains.
Stage 11: Tarbes – Val d’Aran – Pla-de-Beret
Pyrenean peaks: Mayo quits the race. The cards were laid on the table as a group of 17 were all that was left together for the final climb. Denis Menchov takes the victory after a ‘tow’ from Rasmussen. Floyd Landis takes the yellow.
Stage 12: Luchon – Carcassonne
Yaroslav Popovich brough a few smils for Discovery as he gets clear of his small breakaway group for the win.
Stage 13: Béziers – Montélimar
A breakaway of almost 30 minutes escapes the peleton! Jens Voigt takes the line honours for today. Oscar Pereiro Soi is second to the line and takes the yellow from Floyd Landis (from 46th to 1st!). Oscar is the seventh change in the yellow for this tour.
Stage 14: Montélimar – Gap, 180.5 km
Pierrick Fedrigo takes the win.

Tour de France 2006 in Google Earth
Tour de France 2006 in Google EarthLast year, shortly after Google Earth was released, a bunch of Tour de France (TdF) fans in the Google Earth Community (GEC) put up the complete route of the 2005 TdF. The race was still going on while they were completing it. This year, the complete TdF 2006 course [Google Earth File. You must have GE installed.] has already been mapped in Google Earth well ahead of the July 1st start (see the official TdF 2006 web site). It’s a network link, so any refinements will get updated automatically, so save it in your “My Places” if you plan to follow the race. Once it loads, you will just see the tracks for each stage. For more details open up the folder and turn on each stage’s detailed placemarks showing the checkpoints. You can check out the satellite photos, but more importantly make sure you use the pan/tilt features in GE so you can see the mountains they go through. Thanks to ‘lucifer666′ at the GEC, who also did the Volvo Ocean Race network link.
In the 2005 TdF there were some attempts to actually track some of the biker’s in real-time using network links in GE. I hope we’ll see more of that. Also, I was hoping someone will link to web cams at strategic points showing the racers. Harry Love, who started up some of this last year, has posted a blog entry with a bunch of suggestions for using GE. via OgleEarth. … [4]
2006 Tour de France with Google Earth

Tour de France 2006 in Google Earth
Here are some ways you can get involved in the Google Earth coverage of the 2006 event and help create a richer experience for everyone:
1. Upload and geotag your event photos to Flickr (you can view geotagged photos in Google Earth by grabbing the kmz file from the GeoTagging Flickr group)
2. Also, be sure to tag your photos with “tdf2006“
3. Extend the Flickr photo proximity scripts by focusing on Tour de France photos (i.e., photos tagged “tdf2006″)
4. What about pulling down geotagged videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and Google Video?
5. Create a networked link that gets the current position of the pack, the teams, and the major riders
6. Find a way to recreate the race using the above data so that historical replays can be preserved
7. Are you involved with the Tour de France or one of the teams? Provide Google Earth data feeds from the race (race positions, times, current location, speed, etc.)
8. And finally, spread the word! Do you want to see the technology get better (or cheaper)? Talk about it. Money follows the news.
