Tour de France 2013 – Stage 07

STAGE 07 Friday, July 5th Montpellier > Albi (206 km)

There's a typo here - that doesn't say CannonBalls!

There’s a typo here – that doesn’t say CannonBalls!

With 2.9 Million viewers, I’m guessing that there are a few Zombies wandering around Australia at the moment.

After an early escape with Bakelants in the break, we had to double check to make sure that it wasn’t Irizar (once fooled …). The initial break was whittled down to leave Jens “Shut Up Legs!” Voigt and Blel Kadri out on their own, giving Kadri the lead in the mountains classification (no more polka-dot shorts one would hope?). This stage saw team CannonBall lay down the hammer on the first climb of the day placing the sprinters under immediate pressure. After two hours of chasing without gain, Lotto and Omega Quick-Stop called the chase to end, phoned their DS to prepare the Espresso’s and settled into a Gran Fondo ride. We still had a great sprint finish with Sagan, Degenkolb, Bennati and Kwiatkowski kicking in the turbo for the finish with Sagan showing how powerful he is to take the stage. Daryl Impey (Orica-GreenEdge) came home in the first group to retain the Yellow Jersey.

So it would appear that @Orica_GreenEDGE’s secret plan for Stage 7 wasn’t “Albo in Albi” spoiling a wonderful punchline for today’s post.

Tonight’s #TourDeSnack, a 2010 Viranel St-Chinian with cheese platter

2010 Viranel St-Chinian
Located midway between the start and finish of this stage, St-Chinian is considered the oldest wine making region of the Languedoc with a history dating back to Roman times. A blend of syrah, grenache, mourvèdre and carignan, this has lively cherry and licorice flavours, with great length and balance.
