[Trailwalker] Oxfam Trailwalker 2014

Oxfam Trailwalker Melbourne will be held 02-04 May 2014 and will see 750 teams walk 100km within 48 hours from Wheelers Hill through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges National Park to Wesburn. Team registration will open Wednesday 30 October 2013 (7 NOV 2013: registration opens for teams pledging $1400+) … and we’re doing it again.

This time it looks like we may have enough walkers for *two teams*, that’s 8 people walking 100km together. Now that spring has arrived it’s time for us to start planning for next year’s walk.

Oxfam Trailwalker is not just a tough physical challenge, it is also a rewarding fundraising challenge, with each team raising funds to support people living in poverty around the world.

All teams, no matter which pledge category they choose, must raise a minimum of $1,400 (in addition to the non-tax deductible and non-refundable registration fee) to participate in the event. Teams must have fundraised at least the minimum $1,400 by the Friday of the week prior to the event to be eligible to participate. Teams that fail to do so will be unable to start the event without the prior approval of the event organisers in accordance with Event Rule 24.

Here are a few examples of how Oxfam uses the money …

  • $20 can provide families in Timor-Leste with vegetable seeds, increasing nutrition and market opportunities.
  • $50 can pay the school fees for a child in South Africa whose parents have died or are ill as a result of HIV/AIDS.
  • $100 is enough to provide medicines to one village in Laos to treat common illnesses and prevent disease.
