Tuesday Tunes‬ #166 – Royals

royals “Royals” is a song recorded by New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde for her extended play debut, The Love Club EP, and also included on her September 2013 debut studio album, Pure Heroine. Following The Love Club’s March 2013 retail release and the album’s release, “Royals” was released again as a single on 2 August 2013, spearheading the promotion of both EP and album. The song had been drafted by Lorde in a half-hour and then refined with co-writer/composer Joel Little, the single’s producer. This minimal art pop single is intended as a “response to everything that’s on pop radio”, with lyrics that revolve around aspirationalism, counterpointing pop artists’ luxurious lifestyles.
