Tuesday Tunes‬ #235 – 恭喜发财

rooster 恭喜发财 Gōngxǐ fācái
Celebrating the year of the Rooster.
Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival in China, is the most important traditional holiday in China. Chinese New Year 2017 was on Saturday, January 28th, and welcomed the year of the Rooster which is the tenth in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign.

The Rooster (simplified Chinese: 鸡; traditional Chinese: 雞/鷄) is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac (and similar zodiacal systems) related to the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Rooster is represented by the Earthly Branch character 酉. The name is also translated into English as Cock or Chicken. Rooster is the only bird included in the Chinese zodiac. However, the Chinese term is more generic, as it applies to barnyard fowl of either sex.
In the Tibetan zodiac and the Nepalese Gurung zodiac, the more generic “bird” is in place instead of the Rooster, but the image of the Rooster is often used to represent it.
