Event: Sharpy’s Beer Run 2017
Distance: 21km (ish)
Date: Saturday the 18th March 2017
Location: Arthurs Seat
Organised by: Trailology
Starting and ending at the iconic Pig and Whistle Tavern on Arthurs Seat, Trailology proudly presents a 10km and 21km premium trail running event in celebration of the sacred bond between mankind, trails, running, and beer.
Choose a 10k meander through the beautiful state park, perfect for those new to trail running or wanting to simply enjoy the spectacular scenery and soak up the silliness that only this event can provide.
Or… take on the 21km course which not only adds a little distance but also some difficulty in terms of climbing and falling (I mean descending) to the route. Start either run with a carb loaded liquid energy drink (beer) at the start line before heading off to enhance your connection with the land, or skip the pre-run imbibing and wait until you cross the finish line to reward your reward-worthy effort. Or if you don’t drink at all, that’s fine, the Church of Trailology loves you anyway.
Enjoy the trails at your own pace, or challenge yourself for a position on the podium….
Sharpy’s Beer Run 2017
A great run on interesting trails. Some fair elevation involved as you run down and then back up Arthurs Seat (following the Two Bays Trail descent for those comparing the runs).
Conditions were a bit on the warm side, but still pleasant as you dropped into and out of the shade – some decent trail tan achieved making up for the lack of trail tan in January 😉
Suffered from feeding issues once again, but it looks like i have worked out the cause. Eating the Clif Shot Blok at c.9.5km shut my system down 11km – looks like there is an issue at this pace/heart rate/effort that hadn’t been happening running at the slower paces last year. As I found at RCR, this is resolved with a cup of flat Coke if I can get it before I start to cramp.
The take away is that I will not be using any solid food from here on in these events; I’ll move to a full strength electrolyte mix in the soft bottle and use the isotonic gels as these won’t have the gut impact.
