Days before his release from prison, Shadow’s wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.
Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.
Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, American Gods takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You’ll be surprised by what – and who – it finds there…

📚 Based on Neil Gaiman – American Gods (American Gods #1) 🎧

American Gods – Featurette

❝ “Hey,” said Shadow. “Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are.”
The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes.
“Say ‘Nevermore,'” said Shadow.
“Fuck you,” said the raven.” ❞

❝ “People believe, thought Shadow. It’s what people do. They believe, and then they do not take responsibility for their beliefs; they conjure things, and do not trust the conjuration. People populate the darkness; with ghosts, with gods, with electrons, with tales. People imagine, and people believe; and it is that rock solid belief, that makes things happen.” ❞

Having read Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods with 1B1T back in 2010, I have been looking forward to Bryan Fuller’s TV adaptation. Thankfully, American Gods is not following the Game of Thrones Foxtel lock in for Australian audiences but is instead available using Amazon’s Prime Video (who are currently running an introductory offer of $5.99 $2.99 USD/month for the first six months; cancel anytime).
